For many churches, this is the slack time of year. Christmas is over, Easter has passed, and summer vacation is about to begin; but wait, this is a very important time on the Christian calendar! This is the season that we celebrate the beginning of Christ’s church two thousand years ago. The Ascension of the Lord occurred on May twenty sixth on our church calendars of today. The book of Acts, chapter one verse nine tells that story: “Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven” (NKIV).

Mark Wanner, a popular Physical Education teacher at Forsyth Public Schools was honored by the PTSA during a dedication of two goal posts at the school. Wanner passed away last year and his family chose the PTSA to donate money to in his honor. Donations made in his honor were set aside and after discussing the best use of the funds, the goal posts in his memory were the choice of the family and the PTSA. Wanner donated his time mowing the football field at the elementary school for students’ use each year and everyone agreed the choice would be just right to honor his dedication to the students.
