Donald Edward Quinlan was born on October 17, 1933 on Smith Creek to
Joseph R. and Emma (Scheidt) Quinlan.
Don attended Smith Creek school until 4th grade. He then went to school
in Forsyth where he graduated in 1953. Don was drafted into the Army on
December 10, 1953. He served in Korea and got an honorable discharge on
Don married his childhood sweetheart Virginia Nipple on June 24, 1956.
To this union three sons were born, Eddy Don, Gary Wayne, and Richard
Ray. Upon their marriage Don went to work for J.M. Nansel. They spent
their first year at Myers, MT., then moved back to Armells Creek in
1957. In 1962 Don went to farming on the George Mace farm in the Howard
Valley, they raised sugar beets, hay, and cattle. The Mace place got
sold and Don went to work for Rosebud County in 1964. Before they
moved, they acquired the old George Mace brand, the Dutchman S, which
dates back to the 1800. In 1970 Don went to work for the Montana
Department of Transportation where he retired in 1990.
In 1967 Don and Virginia bought Maurice Davidson’s place on Dry Creek,
formerly the Lew and Mae Miler place. Then in 1995 they bought Don’s
mother’s place which is adjacent to their place.
After receiving excellent care, Don passed away at Rosebud Healthcare
Center on January 23, 2023.
Don was preceded in death by his five brothers, two sisters, four
brothers-in-law, and his youngest son Richard.
He is survived by his wife Virginia, two sons, Eddy (Gladys), Gary
(Clenora), daughter-in-law Wanda, four sisters-in-law, Carol Quinlan,
Merry Quinlan, Georgie Quinlan, and Mary Mae Nipple, six grandchildren,
and 3 great grandchildren.
A memorial service where held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 2:00 PM
