Stanley Schelin

Stanley M. Schelin, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Forsyth on May 30, 2018 in the care of his children.

Stanley was born on May 23, 1928 to Carl “Happy” and Edith Schelin in Forsyth. He attended schools in Forsyth and Colstrip, graduating from Colstrip High School in 1946. It was the first year class pictures were taken of the graduating class.

He married Clara Mickell on March 15, 1950 in Lewistown. Stanley and Clara had two children, Cindy and Donald.

Some of Stanley’s favorite hobbies included planting and taking care of his garden, being around his family and friends, and visiting. There were no strangers, as Stanley talked to everyone. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, doing carpenter work, building his home and his parents’ home. After retiring, he enjoyed farming and especially driving large tractors. He would relax by playing with a Slinky at the kitchen table while drinking coffee.

Stanley worked as a passenger clerk on the railroad and later an agent with Northern Pacific, Burlington Northern, and Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroads. He held this position for 42 years. In the days before reliable phone service, Stanley had to alert the crews for work and sometimes would walk to their homes or the hotels to give them notice. He always walked to work.

Stanley is preceded in death by his wife Clara, his parents Carl and Edith, his brother Malcolm, his sister Flora Waetcher and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his children: his daughter Cindy (Richard) Woelich and his son Donald Schelin; his two grandchildren, Jenilee (Gene) and James (Tina); and nine great grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings Ronald Schelin of Winston, Oregon and Carl (Georgia) Schelin of Tucson, Arizona.
